Blog 9: changes to my study programme
I am in second year of anthropology and I love the study programme. It lasts five years and I know that it constantly changing so as society and contexts. The first two years of the career the curriculum is based on theory subjects such us history, philosophy, sociology, epistemology and some other practical courses about field work which help us figuring out what degree we are going to choose. Then, in third year we start studying specifically the field that we chose (social or physical anthropology and archeology). I think that it is great that we can get closer to every discipline during the first two years so we can take a good decision later and also knowing how important it is interdisciplinarity. Another thing that I like is that as we learn theory we have to analyze the social reality of chile, so I guess that the methods of teaching are pretty good. Also, the curriculum is really well organized about the credits of the courses, so if you fail one or you decide not taking them all, you probably will be able to take the next semester with its normal courses.
Now, what is not so good about this career, or maybe the campus, is the infrastructure. It is not horrible, but if we compare it with other ones, we have very poor areas for eating, studying and taking a break. The same thing happens with technology in some areas where computers are too old or the heating in winter doesn't work. Finally, the work load is complicated because there is a lot to read and not everyone is fast enough to arrive on time with evaluations, but I think that most of the teachers are flexible, specially nowadays when both teachers and us are learning about the new virtual tools and problems of this way of living.
Good that you feel happy with your career!! I’m glad
