Blog 9: changes to my study programme

I am in second year of anthropology and I love the study programme. It lasts five years and I know that it constantly changing so as society and contexts. The first two years of the career the curriculum is based on theory subjects such us history, philosophy, sociology, epistemology and some other practical courses about field work which help us figuring out what degree we are going to choose. Then, in third year we start studying specifically the field that we chose (social or physical anthropology and archeology). I think that it is great that we can get closer to every discipline during the first two years so we can take a good decision later and also knowing how important it is interdisciplinarity. Another thing that I like is that as we learn theory we have to analyze the social reality of chile, so I guess that the methods of teaching are pretty good. Also, the curriculum is really well organized about the credits of the courses, so if you fail one or you decide not taking them ...

Blog 8: Personal opinions

Imagen
I want to formulate my opinion around one topic which is the conservatism of chilean society. Speaking of that I have some opinions about different questions.  First, I totally disagree with people who are against legal abortion, something that has been talked about a lot in here so as in Argentina. I don't know if I would personally abort, but it doesn't care because if it is was legal no one would force me to do it, but many people who want to abort could do it safely. So in spite of my personal choice, I totally agree with legalizing abortion in all of the cases (considering a maximum of months os gestation and etc). Also, I think that this society is still a little against people who look different from them. I' m speaking about the physical appearance of other and I say this because I love tattoos (I have many of them) and I've received a lot of negative comments even though people shouldn't talk about other peoples bodies because it is not of their business an...

Blog 7: animated disney character

Imagen
I have a very bad memory, the moment a watch a movie I forget about ir. Anyways, las week I saw "Onward" and i fell in love with it. The character I loved about the movie was Barley, an elf living in a world that used to be full of magic, but it was replaced by inventions, industrialization, and ended up in a modern civilization as we humans do. Even though anyone believed in magic anymore, Barley is crazy about games and cards about history and magic, so people think he is a nerd.  I liked this character because no matter what the most of the people behave and think he is faithful to his own believes about the past and his ancestors. Because of that, he supports his brother, the protagonist, until the end of the adventure of the movie, discovering mythological beings and places. Barley represents a punky and passionate teenager, a freak that goes against what is stablished, even dough he got arrested by the police for doing strike in front of a monument that is going to be k...

Blog 6: Postgraduate studies

Imagen
Although I am just in my second year of the career, during quarantine I have realized a field that I actually really like. In fact, it is related to a hobby that I love which is gardening. There is a field of Arqueology named Archaeobotany and, as far as I know, it can be related to the study of the food production of past societies, the evolution of crops and the human influence on plants. So, while I been trying to learn about being able to produce my own food to provide my family, I realized this is an amazing way of getting rid of supermarkets chains and improving the relationship with our environment without damaging it. Anyways, like I said, I still have nothing clear, but I would love to continue studying this issue after graduating so I could be part of investigating things that could be really helpful and empowering for a society that desperately need a change in the way of relating with the environment in a sustainable way. I have not investigated where is the best place to s...

Blog 5: my future job

Honestly, I have no idea of how my future is going to be or what job I would like to have. Of course, my dream job would be not working at all and living in my dad’s mountain cabin, cultivating my own food and not worrying about the city problems. However, this year I realized that I like Anthropology, the career I am in, so I plan to graduate as an archaeologist and I would love to travel to the US or Germany for getting a Phd. I don't dream about making a lot of money, just the enough to live and save to leave the city and settle down in the mountains like I said. But before doing that, something that I would definitely love to do is having my own coffee shop or a bakery. Cooking is one of the things that I love the most and I would love to make it a way of living. Maybe I wont get I job with my degree and I will just focus on the cooking, or I will find a way to make both. Nevertheless, I change my mind constantly and there are still three years to finish my degree, so I have ti...

Blor 4: books

I have always liked books, even though now at college I only read what I have to, because it is too much. However, there is a book that I read at least once a year only because I love it;  Santa María de las Flores Negras, by Hernán Rivera Letelier. It is a novel about real and fictitious characters who live an historical tragedy in the north of Chile where "salitre" workers used to live one of the worst miseries of human history. At the beginning of the twentieth century, thousands of workers made their way through the Atacama desert to protest in the city of Iquique for better living conditions.  I chose this book because it was the first one that read from Rivera Letelier, but I recommend all of his work.  He is one of my favorite writers because he makes you fall in love with the story in a way that you will be devastated when it ends, and the most amazing thing is that you bring to memory characters and some of the most horrible injustices which no one should ever fo...

Blog 3: movies and series

My favorite series in the world right now is Dark. This german production is directed by Nikolaus Summerer and the first season was released on 2017. This show has literally the most complicated and difficult to understand story. It is located in Winden, a mysterious town where really weird things happen all the time which everyone is trying to find out by themselves. The main families are the Kahnwald, the Nielsen, the Doppler and the Teademann, all related to each other somehow. I can't give you anymore details about the characters because it would be probably a spoiler. But the mystery has something to do with time travel. People missing, a creepy nuclear power plant, family dramas and many lies.   The reason why I like it the most is because every chapter has a big twist that blows your mind, and every season adds bunch of new things that change the posible ending to this drama. I already watched it 3 times and I'm waiting for the last third season to come out on June 27th...
